Building a more sustainable future for water management

As part of wienerberger UK & Ireland, Pipelife Ireland shares a commitment to reducing environmental impact, using resources responsibly and creating positive value for people and communities. Our work supports the wienerberger’s wider sustainability strategy, which aims to address climate change, biodiversity loss and resource scarcity while helping customers build for the future. At Pipelife Ireland, this commitment is reflected in the way we manufacture products, manage resources, support our people and develop solutions that help customers make informed choices.

Using resources responsibly

Transparent environmental information

Understanding product impacts is an important part of making informed construction decisions. Pipelife uses Lifecycle Assessments (LCAs) to help identify opportunities to improve product performance through measures such as increasing recycled content, investing in more efficient manufacturing technology and reducing packaging

The results of these assessments are published through Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), providing independently verified information about product lifecycle impacts, including carbon emissions and recycled content.

Our Qual-Pex Plus+ ‘Easy Lay’ pipe range were the first Irish-made pipes to have independently verified embodied carbon data.

Supporting circular material use

At our factory in Cork, recycled plastics are already being used in selected pipe products where technical, regulatory and customer requirements allow. Enhanced quality controls help ensure products continue to meet the required standards and performance expectations.

Since 2025, recycled PVC consumption has increased by 52% and recycled polyethylene consumption by 48%, improving resource efficiency and reducing embodied carbon.

Planned certification for the Soil Pipe range will support the responsible use of regrind material while meeting relevant standards and customer expectations.

Practical action to prevent plastic pollution

Pipelife participates in the European initiative Operation Clean Sweep which aims to prevent microplastic pollution. This involves training staff on plastic pellet management and making practical interventions to prevent pellets escaping into the environment.

People enabling sustainability action

Developing local capability is an important part of delivering lasting change. Two Pipelife Ireland team members have completed the Sustainability Leaders Programme, helping strengthen knowledge and practical expertise in sustainability strategy, data-led improvement and implementation within manufacturing. This supports our ability to turn sustainability ambitions into meaningful action on site.
